About Pronk
Pronk was founded by Susannah Furr, a mother of four children and married to a PhD candidate in business strategy at Stanford. Constantly looking for ways to elevate the mundane, Susannah became enthralled with the tradition of Dutch women on the island of Marken who found ways to nurture their artistic abilities in the course of their tedious daily tasks. Even though their daily uniform was strictly outlined and passed down for hundreds of years, they believed it was important to beautify and give meaning to their clothes by embroidering symbolic motifs and their initials on all things in their wardrobes. They would even go so far as to embroider places hidden out of sight beneath their clothing as a reminder for themselves alone. These women gained a sense of power and satisfaction through their clothing and their role as its protector and embellisher. This concept—the joy of wearing something that is meaningful, became the founding inspiration for Pronk.
As a woman and a mother, Susannah was keenly aware of the power that clothing had on her every day routine. She founded Pronk out of the desire to create beautiful clothing with meaning, culture, and history: works of private art that remind us of the magic inherent in choosing clothing based on our own authenticity rather than being manipulated by the fleeting trends we are constantly pitched. We hope you will find clothing here that elevates your everyday and your special occasions. And in every piece of Pronk clothing we include instructions on how to add your own embroidery, if you choose, to make it truly your own.
